چکیده
OBJECTIVE To develop and validate a high temporal resolution spectral analysis system for Doppler measurements of blood velocity in the ascending aorta. DESIGN An observational laboratory and clinical study comparing Doppler velocity-based measurements with fluid collection, electromagnetic flow catheters and probes, and thermodilution. SETTING Tertiary referral cardiology unit and cardiac catheter laboratory. PATIENTS Patients undergoing routine cardiac catheterisation for ischaemic heart disease, cardiac failure, and primary pulmonary hypertension. RESULTS There was good agreement between Doppler-derived and electromagnetic cuff or catheter measurements of velocity in an experimental flow rig (SD of differences 4.75% for velocity integral) and in the patients (SD of differences 4% for velocity integral). There was also reasonably good agreement between simultaneous Doppler-derived and thermodilution-estimated cardiac output measurements in patients undergoing cardiac catheterisation (SD of differences 12.6%). CONCLUSIONS This new method of high temporal resolution spectral analysis improves the resolution of rapidly changing blood velocities and may improve the ability to describe blood velocity patterns in the ascending aorta.

A novel method for the assessment of the accuracy of computing laminar flow stroke volumes using a real-time 3D ultrasound system: In vitro studies.
AIMS Laminar flow stroke volume (SV) quantification in the ascending aorta or pulmonary artery can provide a measure for determining cardiac output (CO). Comparing flows across different valves can also compute shunt volumes and regurgitant fractions. Quantification methods for 3D color Doppler laminar flow volumes have been developed using reconstructive 3D, but these are cumbersome and time-c...
متن کاملDoppler cardiac output and left ventricular performance after cardiac surgery. Pulsed Doppler ascending aorta and pulmonary blood flows and left ventricular function using implanted microprobes.
We have developed novel implantable Doppler microprobes to monitor beat-by-beat stroke volume and cardiac output (CO) after cardiac surgery. In 11 adults undergoing either coronary artery bypass grafting (n = 6) or valve replacement (n = 5), Doppler microprobes were implanted on the ascending aorta or the main pulmonary artery to measure aortic blood flow (ABF) or pulmonary artery blood flow (P...
متن کاملIntraoperative cardiac ultrasound examination using vector flow imaging.
Conventional ultrasound (US) methods for blood velocity estimation only provide one-dimensional and angle-dependent velocity estimates; thus, the complexity of cardiac flow has been difficult to measure. To circumvent these limitations, the Transverse Oscillation (TO) vector flow method has been proposed. The vector flow method implemented on a commercial scanner provided real-time, angle-indep...
متن کاملError Analysis, Design and Modeling of an Improved Heterodyne Nano-Displacement Interferometer
A new heterodyne nano-displacement with error reduction is presented. The main errors affecting the displacement accuracy of the nano-displacement measurement system including intermodulation distortion error, cross-talk error, cross-polarization error and phase detection error are calculated. In the designed system, a He-Ne laser having three-longitudinal-mode is considered as the stabiliz...
متن کاملPresentation of a Non-invasive Method of Estimating Arterial Stiffness by Modeling Blood Flow and Arterial Wall Based on the Determination of Elastic Module of Arterial Wall
Introduction: Arterial stiffness is an important predictor of cardiovascular risk. Several indices have been introduced to estimate the arterial stiffness based on the changes in the brachial blood pressure. Since the substitution of the blood pressure changes in the central arteries such as carotid with the blood pressure changes in the brachial results in error in the blood...
